Windy

August 26, 2020

This post was supposed to be a contemplation on the nature of nature. Then nature decided to aim a hurricane towards the small private nature preserve I manage and the time I should have been writing was spent disassembling various decorative archways and moving future projectiles to safer ground. This morning, we got the good news that it was others whose lives were to be upended.

Next week, after the tropics have had their say, perhaps I can return to the nature of nature, or perhaps something fascinating will present itself to my camera.

Until then, say hello to my friend, a signal fly. I imagine they are named for the striking wing markings.

The fellow at the top is my favorite bee, a Parkinson’s carpenter bee. And below is a blue dasher dragonfly. One of these days, I am going to get extension tubes for my camera and really get a look at insect eyes. They are amazing and gorgeous.

Given how much seems to be thrown at us recently, I calmly await the plague of locusts with every intention of getting great photos.
