Indigenous People’s Day (Calmecac Indigenous Organization)

BBP is proud to host the Calmecac Indigenous Organization’s observance of the 9th annual Indigenous People’s Day at Tony Marron Park in the East End. Elders, traditional dancers, community members, and the public are invited to participate in Azteca/Mexica dance led by Calmecac Tonantzin Yolilitzyotl, as well as a water blessing along Buffalo Bayou, a pipe ceremony, and traditional songs  that has been home to indigenous communities for thousands of years. The ceremonies will include special guest speaker Elder Lucille Contreras, Founder and CEO of the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project. This event is free and open to the public.
