    Guests should bring their own cushions or mats and water only in a non-glass container. No food or non-water drinks are allowed inside the Cistern.

This fourth annual gathering in support of BBP will be held around Lost Lake (3422 Allen Parkway), Buffalo Bayou Park’s hidden gem. Come out to enjoy a fun evening of specialty cocktails, a margarita bar and bites from Flora, hors d’oeuvres from other local favorites, and live music while contributing to Buffalo Bayou Partnership’s work of creating and caring for dynamic parks and trails along Houston’s historic waterway.

  • Summer Species: Flutter Fling

    Summer Species: Flutter Fling

    Join us for Flutter Fling, a summer butterfly extravaganza! Participate in butterfly crafts, face painting, paletas, and then join the Pollinator Parade from Lost Lake to the Jackson Hill Bridge, where you can spot butterflies at The Houston Monarch Story by Michelle Matthews, a living art piece that uses larger-than-life butterfly sculptures and a growing pollinator prairie to educate the community about the importance of native plants to butterflies.

    Families can also enjoy a 90-minute Butterfly Walk (approximately 3 miles) led by Nancy Greig, former director of the Cockrell Butterfly Center, beginning at 9am. RSVP for the Butterfly Walk here.

    Flutter Fling is part of Summer Species: Butterflies, a series that celebrates the importance of butterflies to our bayou ecosystem from May – August 2024.

    Houston Aztec Dance Presents: The Express Way with Dulé Hill

    BBP is proud to host the watch party of  the upcoming PBS documentary feature The Express Way with Dule Hill, a series that captures diverse artist’s stories from across America. The new episode features M’api Rainflowa, founder of Houston Aztec Dance. Come out to The Water Works lawn in Buffalo Bayou Park (105-B Sabine St.) for a special screening of the new episode.

    M’api Rainflowa has led numerous Indigenous People’s Day ceremonies along Buffalo Bayou, and a portion of the episode was filmed in Buffalo Bayou Park.

    The Express Way with Dulé Hill is a premium documentary series that explores the power of the arts. Led by renowned actor, dancer, and singer, Dulé Hill, the series celebrates community, humanity, and the transformative potential of creative expression.

    Schedule:

    7pm: Houston Aztec Dance four winds blessing and panel discussion

  • Summer Species: Butterfly Walk

    Summer Species: Butterfly Walk

    We’re fluttering into summer with a series of nature walks exploring this year’s Summer Species, butterflies! Learn about local butterfly species, life cycle, and habitat on this discovery tour of Buffalo Bayou with Nancy Greig, founding director of the Cockrell Butterfly Center (now retired). An avid natural historian “jack of all trades”, she has a particular interest in native plants and insects. At home she keeps busy with a butterfly garden, honeybee hives, and purple martin houses.

    Additional Information:

    Meet at Jackson Hill Bridge (on the Allen Parkway side) just east of Flora Restaurant.

    Parking is recommended at the 300 block of Jackson Hill Street off Memorial Drive. More information available here.

    Walking tours are 90 minutes and cover approximately 3 miles. Comfortable clothing and good walking shoes recommended.
