SUMMARY:Summer Species: Butterfly Walk
DESCRIPTION:May 17 Update: This butterfly walk will proceed as planned despite Thursday’s storm! \nWe’re fluttering into summer with a series of nature walks exploring this year’s Summer Species\, butterflies! Learn about local butterfly species\, life cycle\, and habitat on this discovery tour of Buffalo Bayou with Nancy Greig\, founding director of the Cockrell Butterfly Center (now retired). An avid natural historian “jack of all trades”\, she has a particular interest in native plants and insects. At home she keeps busy with a butterfly garden\, honeybee hives\, and purple martin houses. \nThis inaugural Butterfly Walk includes an artist talk with Michelle Matthews\, creator of The Houston Monarch Story\, an educational art piece located in the pollinator prairie near Jackson Hill Bridge. Members of BBP’s Conservation team will also be on site to answer questions. \nAdditional Information: \nMeet at Jackson Hill Bridge (on the Allen Parkway side) just east of Flora Restaurant. \nParking is recommended at the 300 block of Jackson Hill Street off Memorial Drive. More information available here. \nWalking tours are 90 minutes and cover approximately 3 miles. Comfortable clothing and good walking shoes recommended. \nRSVP
