The work was inspired by her 2022 performance for the Scelsi Foundation\, honoring soprano Michiko Hirayama\, a longtime collaborator of experimental composer Giacinto Scelsi. Hirayama\, who moved to Rome from Japan after World War II\, had a remarkable career spanning opera\, traditional Japanese music\, Roman free improvisation\, and Gregorian chant\, embodying an extraordinary vocal and stylistic range. With Eda Er\, Graves forms the other half of Sada\, a voice/electronics duo charting the storytelling capacities of experimental and improvised music.
