Beginning in 2003, the Buffalo Bayou Partnership began an extensive project to map the vegetation and overall conditions of Buffalo Bayou Park, located between Shepherd Drive and Sabine Street. The Partnership conservation staff also developed management and maintenance strategies as well as schedules and plant lists designed to improve thewildlife habitat, species diversity and aesthetic value of the park. The information and recommendations developed during the project have been compiled in the Buffalo Bayou Park Vegetation Management Plan (PDF).

Accomplishing Habitat Restoration

The Buffalo Bayou Partnership relies on an extensive volunteer community consisting of corporate groups, area universities, neighborhoods, schools, scouting groups and independent citizen groups to accomplish lasting restoration for Buffalo Bayou and its greenways. Our volunteer restoration efforts focus on native tree plantings, prairie and wildflower seedings, wetland construction, litter cleanups, wildlife and plant inventories, and invasive species removal. These restoration programs increase Buffalo Bayou's biodiversity and habitat value while also establishing a more aesthetic environment for all bayou corridor users.
