FotoFest presented two themes for its 2006 Biennial The Earth and Artists Responding to Violence. These two themes will be both independent and inter-connective. The destructive capacity of human-created violence, from war to the household, is increasing. It is a truism to say that this violence is also threatening the existence of earth and transforming its future.

The Earth is a continuation of the ideas examined at FotoFest 2004 – Water. Artists Responding to Violence looks at the deep involvement that artists and art have had in addressing human-inspired violence, from human society to the environment.
