FALL DATES Paddlers will venture into the lushness of the bayou, exploring the urban oasis of Houston. Join us for one of our unique afternoon-guided paddling trips.
September 21 October 19 November 23 December 14
9-11am: Paddle from Shepherd to Allen’s Landing and
ending 11:30-1pm: Paddle from Sabine-to-Bagby to
Allen’s Landing and Note: 6 person minimum and 8 person maximum Where For the earlier tour, meet at 5000 Memorial Drive just west of Shepherd Drive. On street parking is available. For the second tour, parking is available at City Parking Lot H (next to Fonde Recreation Center at Sabine Street and Memorial Drive). Shuttles will be provided to take paddlers back to the parking area. Cost $50/person; includes kayak rental, paddles, shuttles, & guided tour Payment for boat tours must be made at the time of the reservation. Cancellations must take place at least 1 week prior to the date of the boat tour to receive a refund. 2008 CANOE TOURS Introduction to Ecology, Earth Sciences Canoe Trip Saturday, April 12 or Sunday, April 27, 2008 From 1-5pm $64 per person per trip Group limit is 8 per canoe trip The trip addresses the dynamic river and riparian ecology and geology as well as the history of attempts of flood control and erosion along the bayou. Canoeists will study various preservation and conservation efforts on the bayou corridor. Don A. Greene will be your guide. His knowledge and experience include past president and chair of the Bayou Preservation Association who currently teaches earth science to Kinkaid and other schools of HISD. All canoe trips are guided by National Parks outfitter Don A. Greene of Whitewater Experience. Don is a retired award-winning National Park Service outfitter with over 30 years of experience working in Houston to preserve Buffalo Bayou. His knowledge and experience include past president and chair of the Bayou Preservation Association who currently teaches earth science to Kinkaid (since 1980) and other HISD schools.
All trips include canoe rental, paddles, shuttles, personal flotation devices and snacks. Under normal water conditions, only minimal experience or skill is necessary to enjoy these floats.
All canoe trips leave from 5000 Memorial Drive. Reservations and payment must be made in advance. Cancellations must take place one week prior to the canoe tour.
