On this educational float, you will travel down Buffalo Bayou to the
outdoor elegance and charm of the Rainbow Lodge. Upon arrival, lunch
will be provided overlooking the natural beauty of Houston’s historic
waterway.

Father’s Day canoe outing
Sunday, June 20, 1 pm – 5:30 pm
Celebrate the day with your Dad – or your children (over 8-years
old.) Show your family how easy it is to escape the city by canoeing
into the heart of it. Tour Buffalo Bayou and learn about the ecology
and history of the city’s signature waterway while having fun
as a family. Tours will end at historic Allen’s Landing.

History of Buffalo Bayou and Lunch at Rainbow
Lodge

Hear about the unique history of the bayou – from Indians and
early settlers to Houston’s more recent characters – from
noted historian Janet Wagner and primitive skills expert Neal Stilley.
After exploring the bayou, enjoy lunch at the elegant and charming Rainbow
Lodge overlooking the Buffalo Bayou.

Public Art on the Bayou
Sunday, October 24, 1 pm – 5:30 pm
From the bed of a canoe, you will explore public art projects along
the banks of Buffalo Bayou. From the newest installations at the Buffalo
Bayou Artpark to the mammoth stainless steel towers that stand tall
in Sesquicentennial Park, you will learn about the great role that public
art plays in making the Bayou City come alive.

Wilderness in the City: An Introduction to Earth
Sciences
Sunday, November 14, 1 pm – 5pm
The trip addresses the dynamic river and riparian ecology, geology,
erosion and the history of erosion control along the bayou. Canoeists
will also learn about various preservation and conservation efforts
on the bayou corridor. Don Greene, past president and chair of the Bayou
Preservation Association, will teach.
$52 a person
All canoe trips are guided by National Parks outfitter Don Green of
Whitewater Experience. Don is an award-winning outfitter with over 28
years of experience working in Houston to preserve Buffalo Bayou.
All trip prices include canoe rental, paddles, shuttles, personal flotation
devices and snacks. Under normal water conditions, only minimal experience
or skill is necessary to enjoy these floats.
All canoe trips leave from 5000 Memorial Drive. All tickets must be
