Buffalo Bayou Adopt-a-Spot Program

The Buffalo Bayou Adopt-a-Spot Program provides a unique opportunity for Houston-area corporations, businesses and organizations to help beautify Buffalo Bayou through the adoption and sponsorship of special natural areas along Houston’s historic waterway.

Multiple sites along the bayou corridor have been designated “spots” for adoption.  Activities undertaken at each site include invasive species removal, litter and debris removal, native plantings, trail building, wetland construction, and habitat and forest restoration.

How to Adopt a Spot Along Buffalo Bayou

Adopting a spot along Buffalo Bayou can be accomplished in several ways:

  • Schools, church groups and other civic organizations commit to maintaining a spot four-times per year.  No financial obligation is required.
  • Businesses and corporations commit to maintaining a spot four times per year.  A financial commitment of $1,000 is required.
  • Businesses and corporations commit to underwriting a school, church group or other civic organization that will maintain a spot.  Sponsorship allows the Buffalo Bayou Partnership to provide staffing, environmental education, tools and supplies, plant materials, and refreshments.  A minimum sponsorship of $5,000 is required.  Hands-on participation is optional.

All Adopt-a-Spot participants are recognized with an attractive on-site sign bearing the sponsor’s name and Adopt-a-Spot logo. On-going publicity highlighting the Adopt-a-Spot Program participants is included in the Buffalo Bayou Partnership’s publications and in the area media.

Adopt-a-Spot Program Benefits

Through the Adopt-a-Spot Program committed partners gain a sense of ownership, as they help plan and implement future improvements at their “spots.”  The Buffalo Bayou Partnership Program also provides excellent educational opportunities through conservation knowledge and hands-on training.
